Protests are not for fun - Bowler

Crewe Alexandra

Crewe chairman John Bowler has said the Alex fans who are protesting against first-team coach Steve Holland are not doing it simply for "fun".

Holland has come under fire after a run of results that has seen the Alex drop to 23rd in League One.

Bowler told BBC Radio Stoke: "When asked about the fans I was mis-quoted.

"Maybe one or two are having fun but that doesn't hide the fact they are concerned, everyone has the right to make their feelings known."

Bowler continued: "What we've got to do is make sure those who protest do so in such a way that doesn't upset other supporters.

"We have had other fans asking us to do something about the protests that have been going on."

The Alex only avoided relegation from League One on the final day of last season and are once again in trouble at the bottom of the table having not won in nine games.

"The protests display the depth of the feelings that some people have and the board understand that," said Bowler.

"We don't have objections to people protesting, but together we have got to pull this club round and take it forward."
