Delap joined Stoke from Sunderland in October 2006
Stoke City throw-in specialist Rory Delap has dismissed speculation that he will be part of the Irish Olympic team in 2012.
Delap, 32, was a javelin thrower as a youngster and it had been rumoured that the Irish Athletic Association wanted him to compete at the London Games.
The midfielder told BBC Radio Stoke: "I think someone's stitched me up.
"I've said nothing. Someone asked me if I thought I could qualify. I don't know where it's come from."
Delap has the been the subject of much attention and scrutiny this season with seven of the Potters' 13 Premier League goals so far coming as a result of his long throw-ins.
However he said he does not believe he can transfer his skills to the field event.
"Even if I was interested I'd have to put a good 10 years training in," said the Republic of Ireland international.
"By the time I'm 42 I think I'll be too old to be throwing things around."
