Mifsud has gone for good - Ranson

Malta international Michael Mifsud is unlikely to play for Coventry City again following his loan move to Barnsley, says chairman Ray Ranson.

The striker, 27, who almost left in the summer has finally moved on to Oakwell for now on a short-term deal.

And Ranson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I'm glad it's all behind us for his sake and for our sake.

"He's gone until the end of the season so I think it's safe to say he'll never play for Coventry while I'm chairman."

Ranson added: "I've spent more time talking about Michael Mifsud since I've been chairman than any other player."

Mifsud, who has moved to Oakwell until the end of the season, was close to joining another Championship side Bristol City back in the summer. And he has since fallen out of favour under Chris Coleman, making the majority of this season's appearances from the bench.

The Maltese striker, signed by Micky Adams from Norwegian side Lillestrom in January 2007, scored 23 goals in 95 appearances.

But he will always be best remembered for his two match-winning goals at Old Trafford to beat Manchester United in last season's 2-0 Carling Cup win.
