John Schofield in no rush on Cambridge United role

John Schofield would be happy to join the Cambridge United coaching staff, but says he is in no hurry to finalise a deal.

The former Lincoln City manager has been taking U's training sessions over the last two weeks in the hope of securing a contract.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I've come with no timescale whatsoever.

"Myself and the manager have spoke on several occasions and it does seem quite positive so far."

Schofield is already familiar with Cambridge boss Martin Ling from their time on coaching courses together.

If they are both happy with how the 45-year-old's trial has gone, then he could secure a permanent role at the club.

"What we've said is 'let's get on with it and see where it takes us'," he added.

"At this stage of the season it's not about me, it's about making sure the players are fit and ready to go.

"I'm starting to tick the boxes I need to tick for myself and as long as that's happening, I'll be giving myself a good chance of staying here."
