Former Preston and Colchester defender Liam Chilvers is the latest player to join Peterborough United on trial.
The 28-year-old turned out alongside Franck Queudrue in a 3-1 win over Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday.
Johnson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We felt we needed an experienced centre-half and they both offer that, despite a few injuries in recent years.
"I'm still assessing them and they'll be involved against Aston Villa and maybe against Gillingham."
Mark Little and Charlie Lee added to an early own goal to secure Posh a comfortable win at Nene Park.
Liam Frecklington and Gabby Zakuani again missed out as they continue to recover from their respective operations.
Young striker Danny Mills returned to the Posh squad following a trial spell with Histon.
