Pearson is hoping to be back playing in time for next season

Barrow defender Mike Pearson says he is pleased with his progress following the leg break suffered against Middlesbrough in January.

Pearson, 20, picked-up the injury after a challenge by Boro's Marvin Emnes in their FA Cup third round tie.

"I'm recovering quite well." Pearson told BBC Radio Cumbria. "The x-rays have shown the bone is healing nicely.

"I know I've got a few more months to go but I'll hopefully be back ready to play for the start of next season."

Pearson is a graduate of Oldham's youth set-up but only made one first-team appearance for the Boundary Park club, as substitute against Millwall in February 2007.

The Welshman, who has represented his country at under-15 and under-16 level, joined Farsley Celtic on loan in October 2007, making seven starts for the Villagers.

He joined Barrow during the summer following a successful trial period.

"I thought I was having an OK season and I was looking forward to continuing that." Pearson said.

"But unfortunately I had the injury which is just one of those things I suppose you have to deal with in football.

"I'm looking to get back in time for pre-season. That's my target."

The Bluebirds have already confirmed that Pearson, who is on non-contract terms, will still be at the club next season.

Joint-boss Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria in January: "We will do everything we can to help Mike and he will be part of our squad next season."

Pearson has spent the last 10 weeks on the sidelines but says he has kept in touch with the team's fortunes during that time.

The Bluebirds currently lie in the relegation places in the Blue Square Premier after Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Torquay.

"I've been speaking to the managers and the players over the last few weeks." Pearson said. "We haven't done as well as we would have liked of late."

"(Torquay) was my first away trip with the lads since the injury so hopefully I can carry on being involved with the lads and get involved again."

Pearson is confident The Bluebirds can secure enough points to avoid the drop from the Blue Square Premier this season.

"Everyone always says that anyone can beat anyone in this division." he said.

"We've proved that when we beat Histon. We know we can beat anyone on our day."
