Barrow boss critical of boo boys

Sheridan has seen his side win just once in their last 15 league games

Barrow joint-boss Darren Sheridan has called on the club's supporters to get behind the team after recent criticism.

Sheridan was unhappy with the booing of his players during last weekend's 0-0 draw with relegation rivals Northwich.

"We need all the help we can get," Sheridan told BBC Radio Cumbria. "The lads don't want to hear that.

"I can understand why they get frustrated but we're trying to win games and we need everyone to stick together at the moment."

The Bluebirds currently lie in the Blue Square Premier relegation places following their promotion last season.

"You've got to realise what league we're in now and where we've come from," Sheridan said.

"The fans can call me or Dave (Bayliss) if they want, we pick the team. It's water off a duck's back to me.

"But all I'm concentrating on is staying in this league and if the fans can show the same support they showed against Middlesbrough then the players will respond to that," he said.

Sheridan believes the club's travelling supporters have shown more patience at times this season.

They are saying if we can stay in this league it will be as good as being promoted again.

"We really appreciate the support we get away," he said. "The six or seven hours journeys away from Barrow, it's unbelievable what they do. We just want everyone to get behind the club."

Barrow have won just once in their last 15 league games, a 1-0 victory against Kidderminster last month.

"From where we've come from we've done tremendously well," Sheridan said.

"We're not being big-headed but when I've spoken to other managers, they have told us they can't believe how well we've done.

"They are saying if we can stay in this league it will be as good as being promoted again."

Sheridan also believes the club's geographical position and part-time status makes the job of competing in the Blue Square Premier more difficult.

"I think we've got one of the lowest budgets in the league," he told BBC Radio Cumbria's Matchnight programme.

"Some of these teams are paying their players frightening money and players who we are interested in are on scandalous money and won't come to Barrow for what we're offering.

"We're trying to get decent players in on our budget for the money we want to pay them but it's not easy."

The Bluebirds face another relegation rival this weekend with the visit to a Woking side level on points.

"We've got earn the right to win in this league. It's a tough division, as good as the third and second division," Sheridan said.
