Southend bounced back from their 3-0 midweek defeat to Swindon by beating Carlisle by the same scoreline.
The Shrimpers took the lead through Peter Clarke who tapped in from three yards after the defence failed to clear Simon Francis' free-kick.
Damian Scannell doubled his side's lead when he cut inside before rifling the ball into the centre of the goal.
Alan McCormack completed the victory with 10 minutes left when he fired into the bottom right-hand corner.
