Steele's clubs include Brighton, Oxford United and Leyton Orient
Barrow have signed striker Lee Steele on a month-long loan from Blue Square Premier rivals Northwich Victoria.
The 35-year-old goes into the side for the visit of fellow strugglers Grays Athletic to Holker Street.
"Every signing's a bit of a gamble but Lee comes with a bit of a background at this level," Bluebirds joint-manager Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"He's very similar to Wayne Curtis. He'll get hold of the ball and he's still a very fit lad."
Steele has enjoyed a long career in the Football League and Conference, with clubs including Brighton, Oxford and Leyton Orient on his CV.
"Lee's not the tallest but he uses his body really well, as well as getting hold of the ball and bringing other people into play," Bayliss added.
Meanwhile he has reassured his squad they all have a part to play in keeping the club in the Blue Square Premier.
"We've got four good strikers now so we can change things around," he said.
Of the clash with fellow strugglers Grays, he said: "They're all big games. We're at home and we've got to work hard.
