Barrow AFC co-boss Dave Bayliss was left to rue Oxford's greater fitness after the 3-0 defeat by the U's in Saturday's Blue Square Premier game.
The Bluebirds were level at half-time but were overwhelmed after the break and Bayliss was clear that stamina played a part in their collapse.
"We can't knock the lads for effort and attitude," he said.
"The last 25 minutes you could see they were fitter, you could tell they were full-time and we were part-time."
The duo of Bayliss and Sheridan have seen their side win just once since the turn of the year, a 1-0 victory at Kidderminster Harriers.
Victory in the league prior to that came at the beginning of November with a 3-1 win at home to Forest Green, although they enjoyed FA Cup success with a third round tie at Middlesbrough.
