Keiron Cunningham holds the Challenge Cup aloft in 2008 |
Holders St Helens will travel to face Super League champions Leeds in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup. The mouth-watering tie was the pick of five all-Super League clashes in the next stage of the competition. Catalans Dragons face Bradford Bulls, Hull FC meet Salford City Reds, Harlequins play Huddersfield and Hull KR will tackle the Celtic Crusaders. Amateur outfit Wath Brow Hornets were drawn away to Featherstone Rovers, with the ties to be played on 4-5 April. Leeds coach Brian McClennan admitted his side face a huge task when they face Saints so early in the competition. "It doesn't get much tougher than that," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. "We may as well get it on in the early rounds, I suppose. | We have called for reports and it will be another few days before a decision is made |
"I'm sure they will be pretty excited about this too. It's going to be a tough one but we will look forward to it." Cumbrian side Wath Brow reached round four for the third time in seven years after fighting back from 12-2 down at half-time to beat London Skolars 14-12. Doncaster will host Gateshead Thunder in the next round after the Rugby Football League ruled that the Yorkshire side's abandoned third-round tie with Leeds amateurs Queens should stand. Their third-round tie at the Keepmoat Stadium was abandoned because of crowd trouble, with Doncaster leading 16-12. More than 20 police officers were called to the ground on Saturday after reports of fighting. The referee eventually called a halt to the action after 61 minutes. South Yorkshire police say three arrests were made and CCTV footage has been obtained to help them with their enquiries. Doncaster coach Tony Miller described the incident as "a very sad day for Doncaster and rugby league as a sport". He told the Doncaster Star newspaper: "In the 20 years I've been involved I have never witnessed scenes like that and there is no place in rugby league for it. | 606: DEBATE |
"The game became irrelevant. The players saw what was happening. They had their families in the stand watching and understandably they were worried about their safety. "It was very difficult to concentrate on the rugby."
