Barrow (14) 20 Tries: Finch, Nixon, Campbell Goals: Noone 4 Wigan (20) 32 Tries: Ainscough 3, Carmont 2, Pryce, Tomkins Goals: Riddell, Roberts
Wigan were given a scare at Barrow as the Championship club pushed the Super League outfit all the way before losing 32-20 in the Challenge Cup. But the hat-trick of tries in the first half by Shaun Ainscough ultimately proved crucial for Warriors in an entertaining fourth-round contest. Ainscough's opener came after six minutes after a break by George Carmont, who went on to score twice. Wigan would have won more easily but for six missed goal attempts.
Wigan coach Brian Noble: "Barrow just wouldn't lie down. They caught us early and we should have stopped their second try. "Some of our players had the wrong mentality in the first half. It is not good when the game gets like wrestling, taking it in turns to show some moves. "We needed to dominate with the ball and that just didn't happen. Barrow gave their all and it was exciting."
