Linfield 5-2 Lisburn Distillery
IRISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Peter Thompson scored the first two goals for Linfield
Linfield stayed on the heels of title rivals Glentoran with a dramatic 5-2 win over Lisburn Distillery at Windsor.

Distillery should have had more than the 2-1 lead they held at half-time but poor defending cost them in the second half as the Blues blasted in four.

Peter Thompson scored the first two Linfield goals with their others coming from Andrew Hunter, Mark Picking and David Larmour.

The Lisburn Distillery scorers were Wayne Buchanan and Francis Murphy.

Distillery missed a penalty in the first half and had keeper Michael Dougherty sent-off in the second.

They were clearly the better side in the first half and should have been well ahead at the interval.

Diving header

But, after James Willis put a couple of early efforts wide, it was Linfield who took the lead on 12 minutes when Thompson shot through a defender's legs after being set up by Michael Gault and Darren Murphy.

The penalty came on 18 minutes when Tim Mouncey was fouled but Mark Holland shot tamely wide from the spot.

Distillery did level on 24 minutes through Buchanan's diving header and then Paul Kirk's men took a deserved lead when Murphy netted seven minutes later after good play by Holland.

But the second half was a disaster for Lisburn Distillery.

They gifted Linfield a 64th minute equaliser when keeper Dougherty made a mess of clearing a back pass, hitting the ball straight to Thompson who went on to score.

Two minutes later, poor defending from a corner allowed centre-half Hunter to head in his sixth goal in six games.

Mark Picking punished another defensive error to make it 4-2 on 75 minutes and Larmour's free header from a corner five minutes from time wrapped it up.
