Huddersfield 1-0 Plymouth

Martin Smith stroked in Huddersfield's first penalty of the season eight minutes from time to secure three priceless points.

Leading scorer Smith, whose goal took his tally for the season to nine, placed a firm, low shot to goalkeeper Romian Larrieu's left after defender Graham Coughlan handled in the area.

The strike sealed Town's second successive win for the first time since October - they beat Cardiff by the same scoreline in their last outing 10 days ago.

The scoreline could have been emphatic had former Sunderland and Sheffield United striker Smith not blasted wide of the target three minutes from time when put clean through by Andy Booth.

He had earlier curled a 25-yard free-kick on to Larrieu's crossbar.

Huddersfield started strongly but Plymouth came back into the match and should have been two goals up before the penalty decision.

Canada international Jason Bent wasted a chance in either half to put the Pilgrims ahead when unmarked.

He managed to miss from only two yards out after ghosting behind the Town defence to latch onto an Ian Stonebridge cross in the 50th minute, and volleyed wide another Stonebridge cross, having beaten Town's offside trap.

Plymouth: Larrieu, Aljofree, Wotton, Coughlan, Worrell, Norris, Friio, Bent, Adams, Evans, Stonebridge. Subs: McCormick, Lopes, Phillips, Keith, McGlinchey.
