Blackpool boss Steve McMahon, due to sign a new contract on Monday, saw his side stumble in the chase for a play-off place after being held to a goalless draw at home by Bristol City.

City will be much happier with their point, earned by a superbly organised defensive performance.

Blackpool were lucky to survive in the first half as City were a constant threat on the break.

The visitors' Micky Bell clipped the outside of a post with a 20-yard free-kick before substitute Martin Bullock nearly won it for Blackpool, his shot going just wide.

Blackpool were grateful to Phil Barnes for a brave late save from City substitute Craig Fagan.
