Rotherham 0-0 Burnley

Rotherham and Burnley both struggled for creativity as they shared a goalless draw in a drab contest at Millmoor.

Burnley's Ian Moore had the best chance of the match when he hit the woodwork, while Clarets keeper Marlon Beresford on top form to deny the home side.

But neither manager can have any complaints with the scoreline in a game neither side deserved to win.

Rotherham, who have lost just once all season at Millmoor, were quickest out of the traps and the superb Chris Sedgwick caused havoc on Burnley's right flank.

Richie Barker had the Millers' best chance of the half when a pinpoint cross from Nicholas Daws found the striker.

But he failed to hit the target and directed his header over the crossbar.

As the half wore on the visitors slowly edged their way into the game, and Marvin Bryan almost gave the home side the lead in the closing stages with a speculative 20-yard strike.

Stan Ternent's half-time team talk seemed to have the desired effect as Burnley began the second half in aggressive fashion.

Valuable point

Robbie Blake's long-range strike four minutes after the restart narrowly went wide of goalkeeper Mike Pollitt's right-hand post.

And seven minutes later, Moore came even closer to giving Burnley the lead.

The striker's rasping drive had Pollitt beaten but struck the woodwork and the ball drifted harmlessly from the danger area.

With the game heading for a draw, Burnley keeper Beresford was forced into making an excellent save from a 25-yard free-kick from Daws that was heading for the top corner.

Barker again came close at the death but his strike failed to hit the target as Burnley hung on to claim a valuable point.

Rotherham: Pollitt, Scott, Hurst, Swailes, McIntosh, Garner, Daws, Sedgwick, Monkhouse, Richard Barker, Lee. Subs: Gray, Bryan, Warne, Talbot, Byfield.

Burnley: Beresford, West, Branch, Gnohere, McGregor, Ian Moore, Weller, Briscoe, Cook, Taylor, Blake. Subs: Armstrong, Payton, Maylett, Alan Moore, Papadopoulos.

Referee: A Hall (West Midlands).
