Boston United defender Shaun Pearson says he does want to become a full-time professional but only after the Pilgrims have been promoted.
Pearson has been tipped to leave the Blue Square Bet North club in the summer for a higher league.
"Ever since I was a little boy my dream is to be a professional footballer," Pearson told BBC Lincolnshire.
"But I'm just looking at now and getting Boston promoted and then we'll see what happens in the summer."
The 21-year-old has scored 10 goals for the Pilgrims this season including the winner in Saturday's 1-0 victory over promotion rivals Telford on Saturday which keeps them firmly in the play-off places.
"If we go up and the chairman decides to take the club full-time then who knows, but at the same time it is my dream to be a professional footballer and that's what I've worked so hard for," he explained.
"The togetherness we've got is second-to-none.
"You could have gone without a manager and someone could have picked 11 and we'd still be alright because there is such a togetherness," he said.
