Worcester City defending must improve - Carl Heeley
Carl Heeley is looking for a top-half finish in Blue Square Bet North
Worcester boss Carl Heeley says their defending must improve if they are to have a strong finish to the season.
City, who are 14th in the Blue Square Bet North and 15 points clear of danger, entertain Guiseley at St George's Lane on Saturday.
"We have got to defend better than we have been doing," Heeley told BBC Hereford & Worcester.
"We've been a little bit erratic this season - at times we have been superb but at other times we have struggled."
Heeley believes his side have work to do when defending set plays.
"It's just individual disciplines and if you have got a man to mark then you stop your man from scoring," he said.
"That's how I was brought up to defend and if somebody switches off for a second it can cost you dearly."
City twice led in the midweek home match against Stafford Rangers but the Marston Road side hit back to earn a point from a 2-2 draw.
The visitor's first goal came from a corner while the second was from a free-kick that went through the City wall.
"I know it's stating the obvious you get at least a point and the more goals you concede, the more you have got to score to win," he added.
"The positives are that we have moved in the right direction this season and we have got a better squad of players.
"There is more ability in there but for us to take it onto the next stage so that we are challenging in the top half is going to be tough.
"I think the capabilities are there but it is just doing the basic things more consistently and that will take us in the right direction."
City have no new injury concerns going into the Guiseley game, while Marc McGregor will be available as his suspension for his red card at Boston does not begin until next weekend's clash with Harrogate.
There will be coverage of Worcester City against Guiseley in Sport on Saturday on BBC Hereford & Worcester.
