Carl Heeley was pleased by the character shown by his side
Ten-man Worcester City produced a battling display but eventually fell to a single goal at Blue Square Bet North play-off hopefuls Boston United.
City's Marc McGregor was shown a straight red card after only 16 minutes for an off-the-ball incident.
Despite heavy Boston pressure City held out until the second half when Sean Pearson netted the decisive goal.
Pearson won it for the Pilgrims when his looping header from a corner eluded Dean Coleman in the City goal.
Worcester City manager Carl Heeley told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "I certainly didn't see anything but the linesman has told us at half-time that he [Marc McGregor] has been sent off for a head-butt.
"But the Boston defender has told us there was a coming together of heads but no contact whatsoever from either player.
"The linesman is 30 or 40 yards away and it is a big call that has ultimately cost us the game.
