Harrogate Town extended their unbeaten run to six games by holding Blue Square Bet North leaders AFC Telford.

Mid-table Town had striker Gary King sent off early in the second half for a foul on Stuart Whitehead.

Phil Trainer should have put Telford in front before the break but his fierce shot was well saved by Mark Cook.

Alex Meechan later shot straight at the keeper and Jon Adams and Carl Rodgers both shot wide before Sean Newton clipped the bar in the closing minutes.

Chasing the one automatic promotion spot, Telford are a single point ahead of Alfreton - who have a better goal difference and three games in hand.

Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver told BBC Radio York:
"It's probably the proudest I've been as a manager so far.

"Everyone played like a man out there. There's a growing belief in the club that we could be starting something.

"I think we can gather strength because we've had adversity for quite a while.

"We're trying our hardest to win the faith of the supporters and gradually through this run they've seen not just good football but they've seen character.

"We're coming through such a difficult time and a learning curve for everyone.

"We're not there yet but if we can be disappointed to come away with a point against a top of the table team when we're down to 10 men then we've come somewhere anyway."

Telford boss Andy Sinton told BBC Radio Shropshire:
"We knew it would be a tough game, but it was frustrating.

"We just didn't have enough on the night to break them down.

"We had the better chances, but I'm disappointed that we didn't create more, particularly when they went down to 10 men.

"Full credit to Harrogate, they made it tough for us - but unfortunately that little bit of luck deserted us on the night."
