Gainsborough boss Brian Little admits relegation fears

Gainsborough Trinity boss Brian Little says their closeness to the Blue Square Bet North relegation zone is a worry.

Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Hinckley United left Trinity just three points above second-from-bottom Hyde, who have a game in hand.

Little told BBC Lincolnshire: "It is a worry but we've still got Stafford, Hyde and Redditch below us in table.

"We have to believe we can win some matches but there's no doubt that we're in a poor position at this moment."

The only goal of a scrappy encounter at the Northolme came 10 minutes into the second half when Sam Belcher's mis-hit shot was deflected in by Trinity defender Luke Waterfall.

It's been the most awkward season I've ever known in football. Everything we touch seems to go wrong

Little said: "The game was fairly even. They perhaps had the greater threat in the final third but the goal was one of the luckiest I've ever seen, and that summed everything up. I thought we were unlucky to lose.

"Our home form has been a catalogue of mistakes and disasters. Saturday's match wasn't a disaster. The players' commitment was right but we lost to the silliest goal ever.

"It's been the most awkward season I've ever known in football. Everything we touch seems to go wrong but we keep trying, that's the most important thing."

While Trinity slipped to their fourth consecutive defeat, fellow strugglers Stafford won 2-1 at Gloucester to climb out of the drop zone and narrow the gap between themselves and Gainsborough to three points with two games in hand.
