Chelmsford City's leading scorer Sam Higgins has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
Higgins netted 16 times in 27 games for the Blue Square Bet South high-flyers, including seven in the Clarets' run to the second round of the FA Cup.
Manager Glenn Pennyfather said: "He's (Higgins) told me he wasn't enjoying his football at the moment.
"We're not in a position to keep players who aren't 100% committed to the Claret shirt."
Higgins, who joined Chelmsford from East Thurrock United in the summer, is now expected to return to his former club.
The Clarets hope to sign a replacement for the striker shortly.
