Sam Higgins signs new Chelmsford City contract

Chelmsford City

Chelmsford City striker Sam Higgins has agreed a new one-year deal with the Blue Square Bet South club, with the option of a further year.

The 19-year-old has notched 10 goals this season, grabbing four in the 7-0 FA Cup win over Chertsey Town.

Higgins arrived from East Thurrock in June, where he had been the Ryman Division North's top scorer last season with 36 goals.

He was named Blue Square Bet South player of the month for September.

The Clarets sit third in the league following Saturday's 2-0 win over Maidenhead, a result which means Glenn Pennyfather's men have yet to concede a goal at home this campaign.

"The most successful sides today, who win leagues and championships, are the sides that concede the least goals," Pennyfather told BBC Essex.

"We're no different, we pride ourselves on keeping clean sheets and that's six games now without conceding a goal here.

"It's a fair amount of minutes which is super and we want that to continue."
