AFC Telford goalkeeper Ryan Young set to sign deal

Young will be the first AFC Telford player to reach 200 appearances

AFC Telford goalkeeper Ryan Young has agreed to sign a new deal, on the eve of his 200th appearance for the club.

Young would be the first player to reach the milestone since the Bucks reformed, if he features against Darlington in Saturday's FA Trophy tie.

"It's been agreed. Hopefully it will be completed next week," assistant boss Darren Read told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"He's been fantastic. We've got the second-best defensive record in the league and it speaks for itself."

Young made his debut in Telford's 5-3 pre-season defeat by Chester City in July 2007.

"Everybody remembers my debut game at Chester. It was a bad day for me, with 3,500 fans bearing down on me," he said.

The keeper made a number of mistakes in the defeat but he thanked former manager Rob Smith for sticking by him.

"It's paid off," he said. "I'm really grateful for what they did for me. It was the hardest time in my career."

The 31-year-old was part of the Hednesford side which won the Trophy in 2004, beating Canvey Island 3-2.
