Joint Boston United boss Rob Scott has insisted he will not risk the club's future to secure promotion.
Scott says the fifth-placed Pilgrims can not match the budgets of some of their Blue Square Bet North rivals.
"We've said from day one we won't bankrupt this club to get it up out of this league straight away - it's not worth it," Scott told BBC Lincolnshire.
"Fans would rather see a club in this league than not at all and that came very close not so long ago."
The Pilgrims almost went out of business after being relegated from the Football League in 2007 and were then twice demoted due to financial issues.
Scott believes Boston are punching above their weight in terms of the budget they are operating with compared to other clubs.

"We've tried to bring in players recently because we've had to and we've found out what wages they are after and we can't even get near to half of that. Next week you find them turning up at clubs which aren't even at the top of this league.
"It's a business venture as well as a football one. That said it's always nice to have a little bit more and if you don't ask for more you are never going to get it.
"This is not a criticism of anyone, we've known the situation from day one and that's fine.
"The players we've got here are a fantastic bunch and have worked ever so hard to try and improve themselves and improve the squad and get the club higher up the ladder and we'll continue to do that," he added.
