Manager Brian Little felt Gainsborough Trinity looked tired and disjointed in their 1-0 defeat by Vauxhall Motors in Blue Square Bet North.
Obi Anoruo scored the winning goal as Trinity failed to build on their New Year's Day win at Boston United.
Little told BBC Lincolnshire: "Everyone wanted to kick on but it never flowed. I don't know why but we looked tired.
"I thought we had a slight advantage over them but we never really played well enough. It's very disappointing."
Trinity had an early chance when Lewis McMahon hit the post and in-form Ryan Kendall shot narrowly wide before Anuruo struck on 67 minutes.
Little added: "I felt at half-time that it would be 1-0 either way.
"We played ever so well last week [at Boston] and felt we could kick on. I don't think either side played well but we made the mistake for the goal."
Gainsborough have a chance to gain quick revenge when the two sides meet at the Northolme on Tuesday, 11 January.
Little said: "I don't want anyone to be sulking, I want everyone to be bright and I want to win, simple as that."
