A Philip John strike right on half-time and a goal from Alex Meechan earned AFC Telford a merited win at Stafford.

John curled a free-kick round the wall and substitute Meechan scored from close in against the managerless hosts after good work from Andy Brown.

At 0-0, keeper Ryan Young denied former Telford striker Danny Edwards.

"It was a banana skin, but once we got our noses in front we kept going for a great win," Telford manager Andy Sinton told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"People expect us to come here and just roll them over but it was never going to be like like that.

"We were slow to get started in the first half-an-hour but in the second half we ran away with it."
