Watkins is still aiming at the EPL play-offs. |
Telford Tigers coach Tom Watkins has hailed his squad's battling spirit after they came from behind to win 3-1 away to Peterborough Phantoms. Watkins said: "That was a fantastic win, we were solid in all three zones. "December was tough, with losing guys to the GB Under-20 side, me getting suspended, then losing Marek Hornak - so this was a good, solid win." Scott McKenzie (2) and Daniel Mackriel scored to earn Tigers their first English Premier League points of 2011. Keeper Declan Ryan took the man of the match award, conceding just one goal from 47 shots, and wiping away bad memories of the side's previous game at Peterborough - when they were beaten 6-1. "Declan played solid," Watkins added. "It was a great performance. "But the defence in front of him played well too, not letting them have too many odd-man rushes. Credit to all the boys for this one, because the win was down to everyone." The only sour note for Tigers was losing Joe Henry with a knee problem late on.
