I will not quit Gainsborough Trinity - Brian Little

Little insists Gainsborough Trinity will be competitive

Brian Little insists he will not stand down as Gainsborough Trinity manager despite their poor start to the season.

Trinity are still to win at home in Blue Square Bet North following Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Droylsden.

Luke Holden opened the scoring with Ciaran Kilheeney netting twice after Trinity's Leon Mettam was sent off.

Little told BBC Lincolnshire: "I'm gutted with our start but I still think we'll be competitive and as long as I believe that then I'll soldier on."

He added: "On the balance of play they deserved to win, we can't deny that. It got more difficult because of the sending-off but we'll work harder.

I've never shied away from anything in the past and I won't shy away from anything in the future

"We're gutted, as anyone would or should be in this situation, but what we've got to do is stay strong and stay together and we'll definitely do that.

"I want to do this, I want to get it right. I've never shied away from anything in the past and I won't shy away from anything in the future.

"We haven't had many things go our way in the first eight games but I still believe we'll be OK in this league."

Boston United climbed to third in the division with a 4-0 victory at home to previously unbeaten Workington.

Spencer Weir-Daley scored twice for the Pilgrims, with Danny Davidson and Shaun Pearson also on target.

In the Evo-Stik Division One South Grantham Town crashed to a 7-1 defeat at Glapwell with Gio Carchedi scoring for the Gingerbreads in a game joint-manager Wayne Hallcro described as 'embarrassing for everyone associated with the club'.

Lincoln United reached the second qualifying round of the FA Cup thanks to a 3-1 win at Shirebrook Town, while Stamford, Spalding United and Lincoln Moorlands Railway face replays.

Stamford drew 3-3 at Biggleswade Town with Ricky Miller scoring twice for the Daniels, Spalding United were held 2-2 at home to Brigg town and the Moors drew 2-2 with Gresley.
