Redditch United 'inundated' by interest in open trials
Redditch United have been forced to close applications for their open trials day on Saturday, 3 July.
Reds manager Matt Gardiner said the Blue Square Bet North side had been overwhelmed by the level of response.
"It has been brilliant and hopefully we will unearth some local talent that will complement the squad," he said.
"We are not looking for specific players in specific positions but this is a session for anyone who thinks they may have something to offer."
Club secretary Tim Delaney told BBC Hereford and Worcester they had been genuinely surprised by the response.
"The idea for the open trials was one put forward by the fans at the forum back in May," he explained.

"They saw it as a way of giving local talent the opportunity to show their ability and have the chance to play at a decent level of non-league football with the club.
"Our new manager Matt Gardiner immediately embraced the idea, hence the decision to put the trials on and the response has been unbelievable.
"My phone has not stopped with at least three or four calls every day from people registering their interest in attending," he added.
Redditch have now had to stop taking any more applications as they have already registered more than 30 interested players and feel any more than that will be unfair to the trialists and unmanageable for the club.
But assuming the 3 July event proves a success they have not ruled out holding similar such events in the future.
