Aldershot sign Hereford United defender Darren Jones
Jones began his career at Bristol City
Aldershot have signed centre-half Darren Jones from Hereford United on a one-year deal.
Manager Kevin Dillon told BBC Surrey: "Darren can play in two or three positions. He has good character.
"He's very competitive and has a great mentality. He's played at a good level, League One last year with Hereford."
Jones, 26, played under Shots assistant boss Gary Owers at Forest Green, as well as representing Wales at schoolboy and youth level.
Dillon added: "What we tried to do with the signings we've made is to know a little bit more about them before we sign them.
"We don't have enough infrastructure to follow players for a lot of games. Gary knows a lot of them from working with them at Forest Green."
He made 46 appearances for United after joining from Forest Green Rovers at the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
Dillon added: "Ben Herd has not signed a new contract yet. He's been offered a decent contract but he has a year to run on the old one. He'll probably sign the new one when he comes back to the ground."
