AFC Telford United captain Stuart Whitehead admitted it has been the worst season he has ever been involved in after missing out on the play-offs.
Defeat by Workington at the weekend ended the Bucks' hopes of finishing in the Blue Square North play-off spots.
Whitehead told BBC Radio Shropshire: "The group of players have let the manager down.
"With Telford comes high expectations. We've let everyone down. It's been the worst season I've had in football."
But Whitehead believes manager Rob Smith is the man to put things right at the club.
He said: "He knows what to do to get it right. We've all got to look in the mirror and think have we done enough this year?"
