AFC Telford are close to signing a striker

AFC Telford United

AFC Telford United believe they are close to signing a new striker before their next league game against Eastwood at the Bucks Head on Tuesday night.

Telford have scored just one goal in their last four league games.

And assistant manager Larry Chambers told BBC Radio Shropshire: "We need some fresh blood. We're desperate to get someone in to score goals."

Telford tried to sign Farsley duo Lee Ellington and Gareth Grant last week, but both decided to join Droyslden.

"I would have loved to bring the players to the club," said Telford manager Rob Smith.

"But we're talking signing-on fees of incredible money.

"This club won't do that and nor will I.

"There will be another Farsley situation soon, but that won't be happening at Telford."

Telford moved up into the Blue Square North play-off zone thanks to Saturday's 1-1 draw at Hyde - their fourth game without a league win.

They now take on play-off rivals Eastwood, who are two places, and just one point, behind Telford in seventh, ahead of Tuesday's Bucks Head clash (16 March, 1945 GMT).
