No room for passengers - Dryden

Richard Dryden
After five defeats Dryden is demanding better from his players

Worcester City manager Richard Dryden has warned his players he has no room for "passengers" as his side chase their first win of the season.

City go into the home game with Staines bottom of the table and Dryden says the time for excuses is over.

"I'm not willing to take passengers and I think we had a few last Saturday," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"That's why there was a change made during the first half when there was no injury and again at half-time."

City have won only one point in their first five league matches of the season and Dryden knows better than most that they need to register their first victory quickly.

For everybody concerned at Worcester City we have got to start winning games

"We're going to be under a bit of pressure now as one point in five is definitely not enough for me to be able to have a nice easy sleep," he said.

"I need people out there who are going to be mentally strong and who are going to go and win a game.

"We're probably going to have one or two out injured but I am going to chop and change it and put out a side that I think are going to want to win me the game and work hard," he added.

Kevin Spencer and Shabir Khan are among those likely to miss the clash with Staines due to injury.

And Dryden feels the home match would be a great time to register their first win as it would then set them up for a tough-looking trip on Bank Holiday Monday.

"It would put us in a good frame of mind for Bath on Monday," he said.

"But Staines will come down and they will be quick, strong and will bomb forward so we have got to defend properly.

"You still look at the starting XI from the last two games and think you have got enough to win games.

"For everybody concerned at Worcester City we have got to start winning games."

There will be coverage of Worcester City's home game against Staines Town on Saturday 29 August as part of Sport on Saturday on BBC Hereford & Worcester from 1400 BST.
