A goal in each half from Danny Davidson saw Boston United win 2-1 at FC United of Manchester in front of 2,482 fans in the Unibond Premier Division.
Davidson scored with an overhead kick after 36 minutes before tapping home Marc Newsham's pass in the 53rd minute after a swift counter-attack.
Pilgrims keeper Tom Evans produced a string of saves before Adam Tong pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time.
Evans then denied Tong an equaliser with a point-blank save in added time.
Boston joint-manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It was a typical opening-day game with a lot of attacking play, a bit disjointed from both sides at times.
"But three points is what we came here for and we're delighted to take them home with us."
Goalscorer Davidson said: "It was a bit nervous at the end, they were throwing everything at us but it's a dream start.
"FC United will be up there at the end of the season so to come here and get two goals is great for me and to get three points is great for the team."
In the Unibond First Division South Grantham Town came from a goal down at Market Drayton Town to open their season with a 5-1 victory.
