Carl Rodgers' goal put Telford within one step of a Wembley final
AFC Telford United secured a place in the FA Trophy semi-finals on Tuesday night, beating Southport 1-0 with a late goal from Carl Rodgers.
Substitute Andy Brown supplied Rodgers, who headed home from close in.
Telford played the whole of the second half with only 10 men after Lee Vaughan was sent off following a tussle with Southport's Kevin Leadbetter.
"In all my time as a manager, I've never felt as proud as that," boss Rob Smith told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"I still fancied us even when Lee was sent off as they weren't causing us trouble.
"That was an immense performance. If ever you needed to see commitment, you saw it in abundance.
"I always felt we'd get a chance, because we had a few sniffs first half, and I knew I had Browny up my sleeve."
It was Brown's first appearance after missing eight games with an Achilles injury.
"He ran the show on his won when he came on." said Smith. "We'd kept it quiet but he's coming back at the right time."
Three-times winners Telford, who have already beaten four Blue Square Premier sides in cup combat this season, now face another, York City in the two-legged semi-final.
But Smith is not worried, adding: "We've shown we've got what it takes to beat times like that."
The first leg against York will be at home at the Bucks Head on Saturday 14 March, followed by the second leg at Bootham Crescent on 21 March.
