Stafford manager Chris Brindley has targeted survival in the Blue Square North this season, and has warned that the club's progression will be slow.
Rangers are 14th in the table, 10 points above the relegation zone.
The club was threatened with administration in December, and with money still tight, Brindley knows he has a tough job ahead of him.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "This is as hard a situation I've come across. It's frustrating, but you get on with it."
Brindley added: "I can't get the players to try any harder, and some of them aren't getting paid very much.
"Sometimes you wonder whether they're good enough, but then what alternatives can you get in with the situation as it is?
"I said from day one that staying in the league is all we're hoping for, and I think it will go down to the wire."
The 38-year-old was assistant to Steve Bull at Marston Road, but replaced him as manager in December when the former Wolves and England striker was sacked as part of Stafford's cost-cutting measures.
