Aspin happy with Trophy progress

Town have lost just once in their last six games

Harrogate Town manager Neil Aspin said he was proud of his team after they won 2-0 at Gateshead on Saturday to reach the first round of the FA Trophy.

Richard Marshall scored both goals from midfield to improve the club's dreadful record in the competition.

Town manager Neil Aspin told BBC Radio York: "We've put on a really good performance that I'm really proud of.

"I watched Marshall closely and he ran his socks off. It was great for him to get the two goals."

Harrogate's reward for their victory is a first-round tie at Unibond One North side Durham City.

Aspin said he would rather have been drawn at home, but added: "Our record is so bad in the Trophy that I don't pick and choose."

The work rate and application were tremendous

The only sour note for Town was the dismissal of midfielder Michael Roddy for two cautions.

"As soon as he's gone in for that second challenge, with him being on a booking, I felt that he was going to get sent off," Aspin added.

"It's something Michael's got to learn, about staying on his feet, and I'm sure he'll be able to cut that out in years to come.

"The players have managed to cover for him and work hard to get a result. I felt the work rate and application were tremendous."

Town's next game is on Tuesday at home to Fleetwood but midfielder Matty Young will not be fit in time to play.

"We'll have a couple of players missing because of suspension on Tuesday so we won't be able to put out the same team," Aspin added.
