Four goals from striker Jamie Smith helped Harrogate Town climb back into second place in Blue Square North.
Neil Aspin's side beat Fleetwood Town 5-2 at the CNG stadium on Tuesday night to leapfrog Southport in the table.
Aspin told BBC Radio York he was delighted for Smith: "It's been a while since we've had a player at Harrogate who's probably scored three in a game.
"I said to him at half time 'go and get your third goal and once you've got your third you'll go and get another'."
Smith joined Harrogate in the summer and Aspin said he had made good progress.
"I'm really pleased for him because he came from a couple of leagues below," said Aspin.

"I've always had faith in him. I felt that when he was at Gainsborough he could always be a handful on his day.
"He just needed confidence and he needed to keep working but I'm absolutely delighted with him.
"He's a handful for any defender but his finishing was tremendous and I couldn't be more pleased for him.
"It was an excellent display from him and also James Dean up front.
"That was probably the difference between the teams. They obviously couldn't handle our two forwards."
