Eastbourne Borough manager Garry Wilson says the club has taken "the biggest step in its history" by winning promotion to the Blue Square Premier.
Scotsman Wilson has taken the club from the Sussex County League to national football for the first time.
He told BBC Southern Counties Radio: "It is a fantastic journey - this has been our aim.
"Survival will be the first key. We are realistic and hopefully we can make an impact like Salisbury and Histon."
Wilson added: "We've been entertaining. We're very much worth our position of second place and worthy of promotion."
He is also keen for the town of Eastbourne to turn out in numbers next season to support the club.
"There are some massive, experienced former League clubs with a major support base," he said.
"We're building up a new club and we have to meet them half way. It's going to take a big support to get us through the league next year."
Borough clinched promotion with a 2-0 win over Hampton & Richmond in the Southern play-off final despite their coach breaking down en-route to Stevenage.
