Kenya have missed their last three games through suspension |
Kenyan police have charged three former leading officials in the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) with corruption.
Former chairman Maina Kariuki, general secretary Hussein Swaleh and former treasurer Mohammed Hatimy were charged in a Nairobi court of fraudulently obtaining funds from the KFF.
A court official said the trio were charged with one count of stealing 15.8 million shillings (US$202,564) and another of stealing US$500,000 from the football body between April 2002 and May 2004.
The three were released on a bond of US$13,000, and are due to next appear in court on 19 July.
Kariuki, Swaleh and Hatimy are due to travel to Zurich this week to meet Fifa officials and discuss Kenya's recent suspension from international football.
Among other invitees to the meeting are new Sports Minister Ochillo Ayacko, the chairman of the Kenya's National Olympic Committee, Kipchoge Keino, as well as Bob Munro, the chairman of the Mathare Youth Sports Association.
In March, the Kenyan government appointed a caretaker committee to run football in the East African nation, citing widespread mismanagement and corruption.
Three months later, Fifa suspended Kenya from international football as a result of the governmental interference into the running of the country's sport, which is outlawed by Fifa statutes.
