Oxford City boss Mike Ford says he feels optimistic ahead of the new season in the Southern League Premier.

The former Oxford United defender led his side to 13th last season and they begin their latest campaign against Bedford on Saturday.

"You always want your team to evolve and I'm pretty confident that my group of players have done that in the close season," Ford told BBC Oxford.

"I've got more experience in the side and I think I've got more winners."

City enjoyed a mixed pre-season campaign, recording three wins, a draw and two defeats.

The heaviest of these coming at the hands of League One side MK Dons, as they were beaten 3-0.
