Oxford City made sure they claimed local bragging rights at Court Place Farm with a 1-0 win over Oxford United.
The annual pre-season fixture went City's way thanks to a deflected Elliot Sandy shot on 25 minutes.
An under-strength United side often failed to move the ball with the same flow that saw them test a Manchester United XI during a 2-1 midweek loss.
City were unlucky not to extend their lead against the visitors with some incisive play.
United pressed the opposition goal with more purpose as the game went on, but City held on to take the spoils.
Oxford City manager Mike Ford told BBC Oxford: "It's been a good evening. I think we turned out a really decent performance.
"In the first half I thought we looked like the only team that were going to score, and I think we did really well against a good Oxford United side.
"There's a good feel about the group of players I've got here right now. They all really want to do well for the club and hopefully we can have a good season."
Oxford City take on Bedford Town in the first match of their Southern League Premier campaign on August 14, while United travel to Burton Albion next saturday in their first Football League fixture for four years, following last seasons playoff win at Wembley.
