Captain Sam Cochrane lifted the NLS Cup and Muratti trophy within a week

Guernsey's footballers have had a 'fantastic' year, according to the chairman of the island's FA.

Guernsey's senior county league representative side won the National League System Cup and the island side beat Jersey in the annual Muratti.

Guernsey won both competitions within a week of each other in what has arguably been the island's best season.

Mark Le Tissier said: "Guernsey have never won a national competition before and to win the Muratti was a bonus."

He said: "We were always going to be judged on what we did in the Muratti, regardless of what we did in the national competition, so to have pulled both of them out of the bag was fantastic."
