Classy display from Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe United showed their pedigree with a classy 5-0 victory over Jersey at Springfield on Thursday.

The Championship side is in Jersey for a week-long training camp, with manager Nigel Adkins admitting he was pleased with his team's run-out.

"We managed to get the lads a run-out which was good. We scored some goals, could have scored so more."

Rob Jones scored twice, with Ben May, Kevan Hurst and Jonathan Forte also netting for the visitors.

Jersey goalkeeper Jimmy Styles produced a number of quality saves to deny the Humberside team more goals.

With a little over two weeks to go until the start of the Championship season, Adkins feels his side still have a way to go.

"We're still in pre-season and still developing, this week's been good for us, giving the squad a chance to work together - we've got a long way to go."

Scunthorpe United play their first Championship match away to Cardiff on 8 August.
