North and Bels pull away at top

Football

North and Belgrave Wanderers opened up a clear gap at the top of Guernsey's Senior County League Division One after both notching up big wins.

North still lead by two points by beating third-placed Rangers 5-2 at Northfield on Sunday after the game was postponed on Saturday.

It meant Bels went top for a brief period after beating second-from-bottom Sylvans 6-0 with 10 men.

Vale Rec moved level with fourth-placed St Martin's after beating Rovers 3-0.

Bels manager Micky Ogier told BBC Guernsey that he felt his side played better after going a man down.

"To be honest I think Sylvans could have been two or three up on us in the first 10 or 15 minutes.

"But, 25 minutes in we had one sent off and after then we took control.

"We scored some good goals and played some good football with 10 men. Full credit to the lads they battled hard."

Vale Rec boss Tony Smith felt that his side's performance in their win over winless Rovers at the Corbet Field was symptomatic of both sides' lowly positions.

"It was a bit scrappy really, but you can put that down to our league positions in a way, and the pitch was very heavy," he told BBC Guernsey.

"Everybody gave 100%. We were 1-0 up at half time and we managed to raise our game in the second half."
