North win thrilling season opener

Football: Martinez Cup
Matt Loaring's goal brought it back to 2-2 before half-time

Northerners AC staged a thrilling comeback to beat Priaulx League Champions Belgrave Wanderers 4-3 and lift the Frederick Martinez Cup.

Bels went 2-0 up through two Matt Drillot goals, but the Guernsey FA Cup winners hit back to level at half-time through AJ Saunders and Matt Loaring.

A Craig Young penalty put North ahead straight after the restart, only for Scott Bradford to equalise for Bels.

But with 15 minutes left North's Alex Le Prevost popped up with the winner.

North's victory meant they retained the cup and lifted the trophy for a record 17th time.

North coach Mick Le Prevost said: "It was a good game in the end. To be fair we only played 50% of our football - we can play better than that."
