Loveridge represented Guernsey at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi

Four of Guernsey's most talented young sports stars have been selected to receive funding from a new scheme called the Rising Stars Initiative.

Erica Bodman (rowing), Alice Loveridge (table tennis), Kristina Neves (swimming) and Jack Oldfield (tennis) are the four on the scheme.

They have been chosen by the Guernsey Sports Commission for their potential on the international stage.

The initiative will provide athletes with financial and other support.

Bodman finished fifth in the single sculls at the World University Rowing Championships in August, while Loveridge recently won her first senior table tennis title.

The 16-year-old defeated England's Emma Vickers in the final of the Six Nations International Championships on the Isle of Man in October.

In June, 13-year-old Neves was crowned the South East Regional Swimming Champion, while Oldfield won the Guernsey under-16 tennis title in 2009 at the age of 11.

The four athletes will be supported financially with funds from Cenkos, Generali, JW Rihoy and Sportingbet.

The Guernsey Sport Commission is already inviting other talented individuals to contact them, if they feel they have the potential to join the scheme.
