Bodmanwas initially disappointed to miss out on a medal in Hungary |
Guernsey's Erica Bodman put in a impressive performance to finish fifth in the single scull event at the World University Rowing Championships. The Sarnian came second in her heat, setting a new personal best of 07:40:02 over the 2000m course in Hungary. After successfully navigating through the repechage, Bodman came up against two Olympic rowers in the final. With a strong headwind creating choppy conditions, Bodman raced valiantly to finish fifth in a time of 09:32:00. Bodman said: "I was upset immediately after the race because I felt I could have had a stab at a medal. "However in those conditions it became apparent very quickly who were the more experienced rowers. "In hindsight I know that it is very encouraging for me to make the A final of a World University Championship, particularly in my single and having only stepped into a single for the first time two years earlier."
