Guernsey Rangers preparing for Hampshire Cup debut
Guernsey Rangers president Darren Ogier has described his side's forthcoming debut in the Hampshire Cup as a "massive" moment in the club's history.
Rangers are set to take on Hamble in the first round of the Hampshire Cup at Footes Lane on Saturday.
Ogier told BBC Guernsey: "It's absolutely massive for a club like Rangers to be involved, and for the players it's a huge opportunity.
"Hopefully we'll get a crowd to come and watch and support us."
In 2009, fellow Guernsey side Belgrave Wanderers were left wondering what might have been after a dramatic 5-3 extra time defeat by Hythe and Dibden in the first round of the same competition.
And Ogier is hoping Rangers will be able to go one better as they make their debut in the competition.
He said: "Due to the large expense and the strength of our squad we haven't been able to enter the Hampshire Cup before.
"But this year we thought it was right to try and enter this sort of challenge."
The winner of Saturday's match will go on to play Havant & Waterlooville in the second round.
